On The Myspace Murder of Megan Meier

With the world we live in it is all too easy to get desensitized to the grave injustices which occur on a daily basis and are subsequently plastered all over our television screens. I confess I don’t always respond as sensitively as I should to some issues, due to their seeming repetitive nature within media. It is rare that a crime infuriates me to the point where I feel like my blood boils due to the anger, even though I may still find it despicable. This anger could of course be subsided by the justice system bestowing an ample amount of punishment against the offender, but all too often someone falls through the cracks of the justice system and full justice is not served, but rather only a watered down version which amounts merely to a inconvenience to the guilty party.

No more is this manifest than in the case of 49 year old Lori Drew, aka 16 year old Josh Evans, who created a false Myspace account and is responsible for driving a 13 year old girl, Megan Meier, to suicide. Drew and an employee of hers, Ashley Grills, impersonated a teenage boy online in order to lure Megan into an online relationship, torment her and then break up with her. As if this wasn’t sick and twisted enough, Drew went on to tell Megan that the world would be a better place without her and shortly after, in October 2006, Megan tragically hung herself. This is absolutely disgusting and I am amazed that this Drew person actually was able to get other people to join her in this quest.

So what takes this beyond what would be considered normal teasing as argued by those in opposition to Drew’s prosecution? It has been stated by some that such teasing is merely a form of free speech, or an unfortunate result of the right of free speech, but a right nonetheless. My response would be this: the two defendants readily admitted they were just “messing with her,” which shows an obvious intent to inflict damage and emotional distress on this young girls mind. This very statement implies that they were there to toy with the girl’s mind and if you add that to their instant messages of the devaluing of Megan’s life and “playful” urging that the world would be “better off without her,” then I feel this constitutes a violation of Megan’s protected liberties and civil rights for the purpose of doing harm, which is against the law. Then again, I am no law student either. However, Drew was only convicted of three misdemeanor counts concerning computer fraud, which she is appealing.

In my opinion justice was not served and this woman got away with murder. Now it’s not upon me to be some vigilante and dispense justice like some “Boondock Saint,” but I can’t help feel that I need to do my part to make Lori Drew completely miserable as she made Megan, her family and all those who are so appalled at her crimes that it affects even those who have no direct involvement. This is not to say I wish her any bodily harm and I won’t go as far as other blogs in posting addresses, phone numbers and such, for that in no way would bring honor to Megan. But wherever Drew goes, I want her to see in the eyes of the people she meets the foreknowledge that due to her viciousness and ethical perversion she is responsible for the death of an innocent 13 year old girl. Therefore, I have included as many pictures as I can of the woman, so that if you ever run across her, may your stare heap burning coals of guilt and shame upon her miserable head.

Harsh? No, the unnecessary torment and death of a 13 year old girl is harsh! The anguish that Megan’s family must deal with due to the absence of their daughter with is harsh! Furthermore, this woman is appealing the verdict in the case, showing her complete lack of remorse for her actions. The justice system failed to convict according to what she deserves in my opinion. The pain she inflicted and her punishment are not nearly reciprocal enough to warrant the use of the term “justice,” and I found this whole incident to be one of the most heinous crimes of the last few years.

I try to look at all sides, but even if I were to subscribe to the idea this was an unintended result then any rational person would be so overcome by grief and shame that they may welcome the punishment, or at the very least willfully succumb to it, knowing that their own flesh is tinted with the blood of the innocent. I wouldn’t expect anyone in such a place to put up much of a fight, but that’s not what we see here. No, she is appealing the decision and fighting it tooth and nail. This is an element that inferiorities me all the more.

This is a situation that should really be paid attention to by everyone, from those that harass, to those that wish to bring death upon themselves by their own hand, to every one of us. Teen suicide is tragic epidemic that all of us must be aware of and do our part in combating. We must make the most of every opportunity to lift up the emotionally downtrodden. To anyone who runs across my little corner of the web that may be contemplating such a thing as suicide, let me just say that all of us tend to underestimate the importance we have in people’s lives and how much we are truly loved, and I think this case attests to that very fact.

On Mary-Kate, The FBI and Walmart

This week the FBI abandoned Mary-Kate Olson in their so-called "investigation" into Heath Ledger's death. I guess its pretty common for the FBI to subpoena someone to stand before a Grand Jury, review immunity options with them, spend time, effort and tax dollars to investigate an alleged illegal connection with both narcotics and the death of a celebrity; and then just shrug it off. I'm sure it happens all the time. I won't say positively that there is any special treatment going on here for Mary-Kate, but at the very least it does seem a little odd.

All this build up gets bloggers like me all excited, and then to have it just dropped without any is such a let down. I wanted someone to burn, and if that someone was Mary-Kate, oh, could you imagine the blogging opportunities? Mmmmm...yes, truly delicious. Yet, now I must seek more inane issues, like monsters washing up in Montauk to satisfy my blog fetish. Thanks FBI. Not since The X-Files: I Want To Believe has the FBI let me down so much. I hope they just keep me in the loop when Miley Cyrus's money laundering/counterfeit scheme is uncovered.

Something has to be behind the FBI's decision though. Lack of evidence? No, thats never stopped them before. Murdered witness? Hmmmmm...much more likely. I never really trusted the Olson twins come to think of it, and I could see them killing to save their own skin, or at least hiring a hit man to take care of their dirty work. They sure have the money. On that note; perhaps an old fashioned bribe from the collective funds of their fragrance, make-up, and Walmart clothing line (I'm sure these aren't the only lines Mary-Kate is into). Wow, and here I thought that Walmart was just for hating on far-left democrats, buying Halloween candy, cheap DVD's, fresh undergarments and abandoning unwanted children. I was sadly mistaken. Apparently, the Olson twins also make a...(wait for it...), a killing there.

Is it really any wonder that the Olson twins got into, not only murder, but also make-up. I mean, Mary-Kate sounds a little too much like Mary Kay to be just a coincidence. I believe this whole make-up thing was actually decreed at conception and that several companies, including Walmart, have had a hand in their development; actually purchasing the two shortly after their birth and slowly conditioning them into making a profitable line of make-up and horrible clothing. Think about it. I don't know about you, but it bugs me out.

I am so glad someone else mentioned that Creed is horrible. It seemed for a while there was this interesting phenomenon going on within the country, where people actually liked Creed and thought they were good. Weird. Well, apparently everyone wised up because the band ended up disbanding. It is also good to know that Billy Ray Cyrus is good at something other than being a horrible father. He can make real crappy music as well. Way to go on turning your daughter into jailbait there Billy. Ugh. Already pressuring her into posing for Playboy the day she turns 18 are we?

Now, there are a couple songs missing from the list I feel, which were both mentioned as number one's in previous worst song lists by other sources. "We Built This City" by Starship (1985), which I believe Maxim voted as their number one worst song. Though the song does suck, I have always found the Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship to Starship progression extremely interesting. Definitely worth the Wikipedia query. Second, and having my vote along with every Fergie song ever made, is "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" by The Ohio Express (1968). I feel all the problems in the world today, global warming, clubbing of baby seals, and the rise in murder, can all be traced back to 1968 when this song was released. It was truly a crime against humanity and through Fergie these problems have escalated. Now, I can't remember what top worst song list this song was voted number one, and I'm not too sure about the Maxim one either so if anyone has any insight into where these two appeared, E-Mail me.

On The "Other" Borden Murders

On The "Other" Borden Murders.

"Lizzy Borden took an Axe
And gave her mother forty wacks
And when she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one." –Early Twentieth Century Nursery Rhyme.

On August 4^th, 1892 a gruesome event occurred, that would from that day forth, secure a place in the annals of American Justice and criminology. This, of course, was the murders of Andrew Jackson Borden and Abby Durfee Borden. The father and step mother of one Lizzy Borden, whom became the eventual suspect in the slayings. Although, the popular rhyme mentioned above isn't completely accurate; her mother actually receiving 18 or 19 whacks and the father 11, but it does illustrate the feeling most people had after the murders, even despite Lizzy's eventual acquittal. To this day many believe that she was indeed the one responsible for killing her parents with a hatchet.

I believe the motive in the murder was that Lizzy was sexually abused and she killed both the father and the mother, who may have looked away. In Lizzy's mind refusing to protect her. Lizzy is known for having a lesbian relationship with the actress Nance O' Neill later on in her life, which I only mention as a side note, for psychologically speaking this could point to a distrust of men, due to some form of abuse. Though, this is not proof positive in itself, yet paired with other evidence, its enough to lead me to this conclusion.

As horrible as this event was, truly, is it possible that it wasn't the first time the Borden family had been subject to murder? Alas, this is the case. However, the only date I could find for this particular event is approximately between 1845-1848 (though I lean towards 1848 being the correct year), however, if anyone has more specifics on the case and would like to share them I would be in your debt, because details seem hard to come by.

In 1848(?), and right next door to where the famous Borden murder took place, Ladwick Borden's (Lizzy's great uncle) 2^nd wife, Eliza Darling Borden, took her three children down to a basement cistern and drowned two of them, one of them escaping and fleeing from the scene. The woman then took a knife and cut her own throat. A classic double murder-suicide.

Now why the hell would I write about something like this? Couple reasons. First, that nobody out there knows about the first Borden murders, and just in case someone wanted some simple, vague information such as what I have provided, well it may lead to an extra hit, or dare I say it…whack, on my blog. Second, I find it quite fascinating, and indeed a mystery, as to why certain families are plagued by a particular series of misfortune, tragedy, and betrayal, such as the Borden's here, or the Windsor's, and their American likenesses; the Kennedys.

Although some of it seems to be complete coincidence or bad luck, others, however, follow a very similar almost parallel series of events and occurrences that must be due to a family members disposition depositing itself on a younger generation or those whom are in attendance. Indeed, imagine what kind of predisposition Lizzy may have had if the subject of Her great uncles wife's murder suicide was made known to her. How would that, and the added variable of abuse equate itself? Furthermore, hypothetically, would ones morality be effected when being bombarded by such circumstance and family history?

Again, it should be said that not all family tragedy can be based on the notion of predisposition, however I believe it does occur and will continue to occur. So in conclusion, do not pass your sins down to others of the family, but rather make sure the disposition within your family is right and just and this will perhaps help to prevent family tragedy over generations.
